They cut the grass and watered the greens so Winged Foot has yet to bare its teeth, but I think its going to come. Even with the slightly favourable conditions, there were still plenty of doubles and worse out there.
Unpopular chubster FatPrick Reed managed only the 3rd Ace in Winged Foot US Open history - it was quickly followed by 143rd Ranked (and 6 time selected!) Will Zalortis dropping in the 4th. Zalortis then had a ridiculous lip out for a 2nd Ace on 13 which would have been some story – no idea how it missed. Stricker also lipped out for one.
No doubt Reed will claim that Zalortis has to pay the bar bill as he was the latest to get an ace. The fat prick.
JT showed the form that made him such a popular pick in the PGA, and rolled everything into the centre of the hole. It looks ominous for the rest but some big names behind him including the Lesser Spotted McIlroy, John Rahmbo and old timers Westwood and Oousthuizen.
All set up for some cracking golf over the weekend.
Cruising The Highway
The 3 most popular picks had stinkers so unsurprising to see huge swings in the leaderboard - Jason Day (45 picks) 56th , Casey (43) 122nd, DJ (41) 71st
Rahm 14th & English 8th rewarded their numerous backers slightly more
The Road Less Travelled
I said it was only Reed not picked in the Worlds top 51, but I missed Rory not getting a pick either. Both Top 5. Doh!
Of the 16 unique picks, only Will 'Boris' Buck has had any success and that was with Rafa Cabrera Bello (8th)
He also had solid performer Zach Johnson (21st) the same position as Michael Thompson (Craig 'Katherine' Jenkins) & the big outsider Takumi Kanaya (Ruairi 'The Hatchet' Hatchell)
Not a unique pick, but a unique strategy - alas, with Tyrell Hatton as good as dead, looks like its backfired for Tiso 'Know Something I Don't?' Faletose.

Conor ‘Cambodian Sunset’ Brennan holds pole position after Rd 1. About 1/3rd of the field currently have 5 or more under the cut line and you’d expect the winner to come from them.
Keep your eye on 5th place Tom ‘Damage’ Sarginson with 7 players looking to make the weekend.
Also worth watching Michael ‘Safe’ Havens – He must be thinking this game is very easy after winning on debut. Currently siting in 7th but that includes 57th place Jason Day, the highest scoring player in the top 15 which shows how well the other 4 are going (total 16)

Come on!!! ITSSS ON!
I have Jason Day but almost want him (and Hughes) to gaff it tomorrow.
Emily 'Dogs and' Katz & Nicholas 'Dumpty' Humphrey both challenging John 'Cliff' Talbots unassailable 500.

M5er · No room for error, and it looks like Daniel Berger is surprisingly the one to let Michael Paterson down.
Reigning Champs – Michael ‘Safe’ Havens 8th (he cant can he??), Rob ‘Glands’ Hands in 66th & Tiso 'Know Something I Don't?' Faletose in 88th
Cheers,
Baloney
