We turn the corner into the metaphorical back 9 of the M7 season this weekend with the US Open in Brookline, MA. What have your learnt from the first two this season? Who has been added to your 'never picking them again' list? Let's hope for the vast majority of us that maybe, just maybe this is our time to shine
Full picks in the email I sent and can be seen by going to https://m7golf.wixsite.com/m7golf/leaderboard.
Any objections please raise before the US Open tees off. N.B. "My picks are sh*t" is not a valid objection - that is your own fault
There are 100 of us going for the big prizes (+ our good friends Control and Wisdom)
Prizes (TBC)
1st - S$5000
2nd - S$2800
3rd - S$1600
Best of Rest (<5 make cut) - S$600
Immediately out of the running are Chris 'Flamingo' Kiernan (wouldn't have won anyway - see below) Michael 'Pogo' Paterson and Michael 'Shin' Fein (2nd time in a row) who didn't submit in time.
Even if he had picked in time last years US Open champion Chris 'Flamingo' Kiernan (Torrey Pines with score of 88) wouldn't have won anyway (no one successfully defends an M7 championship) and Remi 'RAR' Tache has no chance as he won the USPGA a few week ago (no one wins back to back M7s)
Just 80 different players picked which means only 52% of the field are involved in M7 in some way! That's even lower than last time out, so it could be fairly bunched. In fact it is actually 73 (47%) valid players as Kirk, Wolff, Westwood, Kuchar, Theegala, Schwartzel and Day were all in at least one of the M7 teams and are not playing this weekend. Which means quite a few of you have let yourselves down with the picking. 10 of you are playing M6. The most popular pick is Justin Rose (52) after his almost 59 final round last week. Popular again is Corey Connors (49) and Shane Lowry (39) is 3rd highest pick.
Quite a few other picks above 20:
Riley (33) - by far the favourite in the final category
Zalatoris (32)
Homa (29)
McIlroy (27)
Mito Pereira (27)
Fleetwood (24)
Schauffele (24)
Thomas (22)
Scheffler (22)
Some of the big LIV splitters (Boo!!!) got the following: DJ (0), Mickelson (4), Na (1), Oosthuizen (5), Schwartzel (1), Grace (2), Reed (3).....so the M7 audience clearly voting with their feet!
13 of you have the most popular 3 all in your team (Rose, Connors, Lowry)
9 of you have the most popular 4 all in your team (Rose, Connors, Lowry, Riley)
In terms of unique picks, the 1-10 category has Hovland (again) and Spieth as unique - that could be interesting if one of those goes well. We had 12 valid unique picks in all but no one with more than one in their team (not surprising given the relatively low number of valid players chosen) Jonas Blixt (or Blixit as he kept entering the name as) is the highest ranked OWGR player picked - well done (?) Tiso 'Know something I don't?' Faletoese Fastest finger - Well done Brian 'Gordon' Bennett Most entries - Daniel 'Snake' Martin Leaving it to last minute - Jamie 'The Reverend' Green Live m7 scoring will be up and running tomorrow after tee off on https://m7golf.wixsite.com/m7golf
27 is the M7 record score to beat - set at the Masters last year by Matthew 'Beevower' Price but of course lets not forget the best record of the lot - John 'Cliff' Talbot Snr’s even more incredible record of 500 pts
Reminder - You can't win M7 on the first day but you sure as hell can lose it - Alastair 'Baloney' Loney
