M7 US Open - Final Reckoning

Writer's picture: alastairloneyalastairloney

With only 1 player finishing below par, the US Open delivered as expected. When Wolffs eagle on 9 was matched by the big lad, you could see in his body language it was all over, and the professor romped to a 6 shot victory. M7 was no where near as boring in the end with the top 6 all in with a shout as the last few groups came down the last. With only 25 between 1st and 9th, many will be wondering what if. Isn’t it always the way?

Top

  • It was Johnathan 'Nigel' Spink’s to lose on Saturday afternoon when he was sat on 25 about 25 points clear of the field. It would have been doubly impressive backing up from a BOTR prize from the PGA. Alas this is M7 and he was knocked out of the prizes altogether with a late late bogey from Harris English.

  • The beneficiary was Round 1 Leader Conor 'Cambodian Sunset’ Brennan. The leaderboard didn’t register English’s bogey until after DeChambeau had lifted the trophy but it did eventually and takes home a 2nd 3rd place after 2017’s US Open.

  • As the field when up and down around him, Steve 'Archie' Bishop had 7 players in his pocket and never went away. 2nd place in 2014, 3rd in 2018, cashing for a 3rd time is great work, but still not quite onto the top step of the podium.

  • Delighted that it goes to 1st time winner Daniel ‘Darth’ Martin. Not so delighted I had a side bet with him. From 8th on Day 1, Dan was always in and around the top 10 before making a charge on Sunday and scooping the trophy, the cash, and a place on the Hall of Fame.

BOTR

  • 4 player in the top 13 is solid from Sean ‘Cloughie’ Brennan, the 2nd of the Brennan clan to to cash out. 131 matches COK’s score from the PGA, and that’s the best in 5 years. To top it off Leeds got a win and it was his birthday. What a weekend!

Bottom

  • She always had the spoon and spot in the Hall of Shame locked in, but with a 34th place finish, Daniel Berger saved Emily'Dogs and' Katz from any records.

Reigning Champs

Michael ‘Safe’ Havens fell back to a still solid 17th spot. Now he knows what losing feels like, next time maybe he’ll get that Thursday PM feeling of WTF are they doing?”. Rob ‘Glands’ Hands finished in a boring 30th & Tiso 'Know Something I Don't?' Faletose in a woeful 91st.

Prizes

Congrats to all winners. To reduce admin and exchange rate costs etc, we will pay out all prizes at the end of the season.

Next Up

November 9th will be a very different Augusta. No azaleas, no morons shouting guurtinnnthaaahoooolle, but M7 will be there as always.

See you all then.

Cheers,

Baloney / Tally / Lobo
