M7 Masters - Locked and Loaded

lobo2210

Sushi and Wagyu beef may have been on the menu for the champions dinner this week, but what we really want to know is who will be maki-ng their way up the 18th on Sunday ready to claim their green jacket and who will be having a cow of a time when they don't make the cut.

That's right folks it's M7 Masters time!

Everyone's favourite time of the year. When it's still possible for you to take home all 4 M7 competitions. Where you love every single one of your picks and are not cursing the ground they walk on and calling them a "Fat Pr*ck". Cherish these moments!

Before we get into the golf, once again a massive thankyou to all of you who donated S$3,331 to our Ukraine appeal. Donation to be made this week by Tally.

Now onto the golf....Full picks in the email i sent and can be seen by going to https://m7golf.wixsite.com/m7golf/leaderboard

Any objections please raise before the Masters tees off. N.B. "My picks are sh*t" is not a valid objection - that is your own fault

There are 100 of us going for the big prizes (+ our good friends Control and Wisdom)

Prizes (TBC)

1st - S$5000

2nd - S$2800

3rd - S$1600

Best of Rest (<5 make cut) - S$600

Immediately out of the running is last years M7 Masters champion Matthew 'Beevower' Price (no one successfully defends an M7 championship) but not only that Beevower was also the winner of the most recent M7 (The Open) and no one wins back-to-back M7s either - so he is basically a non-runner on 2 counts.

79 different players picked which is 86% of the field involved in M7 in some way! Well errr...it would be if those were all valid picks.....but they're not. Some of you forgot to check the runners list - 4 of these players are not making their way to Magnolia Lane this year (English, Poluter, Matt Jones and Anirban Lahiri) which means we have 5 of you playing M6 this year. Good luck gents, you will need it! With injury concerns around Hideki and Tiger too we may see more M6s as we progress. This leaves us with 75 valid picks (still a healthy >81% of the field) The most popular pick is Brooks Koepka (46) with Gary Woodland (45) not far behind.

It's not quite the 94 Spieth had last year but still some decent numbers. With a small field it's not surprising that there are quite a few others with over 20 picks:

  • Zalatoris (40)

  • Leishman (37)

  • Cam Smith (36)

  • Connors (27)

  • Lowry (23)

  • Rose (23)

  • Scott (22)

  • Spieth (21)

  • Only 19 of you had Tiger

14 of you have the most popular 3 all in your team (Koepka, Woodland, Zala)

4 of you have the most popular 5 all in your team (Koepka, Woodland, Zala, Smith, Leishman)

Could mean a close leaderboard if two or three of the popular picks run well.

In terms of unique picks the 1-10 category amazingly saw 3 unique picks - Rory, Paddy Cantlay and Xander were each only picked by 1 of you. We had 18 valid unique picks in all but only 1 of you has 2 of them in their team. Hats off to you Alastair 'Baloney' Loney (Schauffele and Glover). Will this make the difference? No, no it won't Surprisingly the shoe-in for highest ranked OWGR player picked - Tiger - has been pipped to the prize by 1238th ranked Bernhard Langer who has been picked by Adrian 'Kaiser Sosai' Ashman - what is he thinking! Fastest finger - Tally but he doesn't count so well done Remi 'RAR' Tache Most entries - Nicholas 'Dumpty' Humphreys with 8!!! (We had a record number of entries on any M7 getting well over 210 from the 100 of you) Leaving it to last minute - Matthew 'Beevower' Price with 13 mins to spare (it was his 4th entry) Live m7 scoring will be up and running tomorrow after tee off on https://m7golf.wixsite.com/m7golf

27 is the M7 record score to beat - set at the Masters last year by Matthew 'Beevower' Price but of course lets not forget the best record of the lot - John 'Cliff' Talbot Snrs even more incredible record of 500 pts which surely can't be beaten at a masters event with only 91 runners

Reminder - You can't win M7 on the first day but you sure as hell can lose it - Alastair 'Baloney' Loney
