M7 Covid Masters - Final Standings

"You can't win M7 on Day 1, but you can.......". No, turns out you can't.

Exhibit A - 10:40pm Thursday evening

Exhibit B - End of Rd 1

Exhibit C - A comfortable victory for David 'Simon Says' Simonsen. $5000 and more importantly a place on the HoF. With his previous 2nd (x2) and 3rd, he jumps straight up to 4= on the all time list. Connors steady progress and Shane Lowry not shitting the bed were the key differentiators for David along with the inspired choice of Ca. Smith from the stacked 41-50 pot. What a rags to riches tale!

In 2nd place, Braydon 'Bend it like' Barcham earns himself $2,700. He would have snuck in to 3rd even with his 6th pick Kim, so a solid entry from Braydon. His 2nd time in 2nd - Maybe next time on the top step.

Rounding out the podium spots, Barry 'Peter' O'Hanrahan collects $1600. With only 5 through there was a queue behind ready to sneak in, but very little late movement in the leaderboard meant Barry was safe.

He was just a Matsuyama, Westwood or Champ birdie, or Fowler bogey away from the prizes but I'm afraid there is nothing for Ebbo in 4th even if he was one of only 6 to get his whole squad into the weekend. Similar hard luck story for Tally in 5th - Highest placed player with Tiger in his team. A par up 12 would have made all the difference instead of 3 balls swimming.

He looked in a commanding lead and it held for Sean 'The Equaliser' Brennan proving that you can win the same prize back to back, and also that there are no depths Tally will not go to when it comes to sh*t nicknames.

The only people every to cash in 2 consecutive M7s before were Adrian 'Volcanic Ashman (3rd then 2nd in the 2013 Opens) & Rob 'Glands' Hands (who was 2nd and then 1st in the opening M7s of 2008) - Judging by his pathetic winning score of 70, there were probably 10 entrants so i'd say this is the 1st time someone has managed it in a full field.

Lets not mention the fact you have to fail miserably to be in the running for BOTR. A wins a win ....... :-)

Finally, at the bottom of the pack we have Dave 'Molten' Browne. PLaying m5 he was always going to struggle and despite Tommy the Vikings best efforts, as the only one with just 2 players through he had this locked down from Friday night. Not a magic 500, but considering 57 of the 92 field (and 8 of those you could easily have crossed off), only getting 2 through really is a stunning effort!

And so that concludes M7 for 2020. We'll be back in April (hopefully) where DJ and David Simonsen will be back to defend their titles. History says they wont!

Thanks all for playing. All winners have already been contacted for payment or paid, but anyone got any issues / questions, or indeed suggestions for improvement, please let me know.

Cheers,

Baloney, Lobo & Tally
