Welcome to Oakmont. If you believe the hype, we could be in for a very interesting few days as the third M7 of the year is upon us
Full picks are in the email I sent and can be seen by going to https://m7golf.wixsite.com/m7golf/leaderboard.
Please check your own entry is correct. Any objections please raise before tee off. N.B. "My picks are sh*t" is not a valid objection - that is your own fault
There are 97 of us going for the big prizes (+ our good friends Control and Wisdom) - no show from Jeanette 'Jimmy' Hennix, Tom 'Wobbly' Wheeler and Oliver 'Naked' Martin
Prizes (TBC)
1st - S$5000
2nd - S$2800
3rd - S$1600
Best of Rest (<5 make cut) - S$600
Lets get this out the way. The following have no chance whatsoever:
Daniel 'Austin' Healey as he won the USPGA last month (no one wins back to back M7s - except Todd 'Ronald' McDonald once )
Alex 'Dravid' Wall winner of last year's US Open at Pinehurst (no one successfully defends an M7 championship)
What does it take to win M7?
The US Open average winning score is 52 points
Who picked who?
68 different players picked which is only 44% of the field.
And actually Theegala, Noren and Homa aren't playing so it makes it 64 different players, 41% of the field, and 7 of you playing M6 (an invalid DeChambeau pick adds to the non-starters)
There are 3 standout popular picks and not really surprising. Rahm (85), Scottie (73) and Niemann (59). 39 of you have all 3.
In the USPGA we saw a real split in category 1 but not this time (only 2 of you went for Rory).
Burns (44), Conners (42), Spieth (34), Lowry (27), Hatton (23) and Fleetwood (22) are the only others above 20 picks
64 of you have the most popular 2 all in your team (Rahm, Scheffler) - only 5 have neither
39 of you have the most popular 3 all in your team (Rahm, Scheffler, Niemann)
19 of you have the most popular 4 all in your team (Rahm, Scheffler, Niemann, Burns)
12 of you have the most popular 5 all in your team (Rahm, Scheffler, Niemann, Burns, Conners)
Norman's (Wisdom) team is Scheffler, Lowry, Conners, Burns, Spieth, Reed and Rahm.....No one has the same exact same 7 - although a few have has 6 including (obvs) Justin 'Tally' Price
16 valid unique picks in all. Douglas 'Silly' Isles the only one with 2 (Spaun, Ortiz)
Brooks is the highest ranked OWGR player picked - 4 of you have him
What about the LIV splitters?
Liv player picks are down. They only account for 29% of all picks (vs 38% in PGA). However as noted above 2 of the most popular are LIV
7 of the 14 available have at least one pick somewhere in M7
4 of you have swerved LIV completely - Dave 'Molton' Browne, Andrew 'Bullet Baxter' Moffat, Darren 'Little Plum' Robinson and John 'Balsa' Wood
Speed and Uncertainty
Fastest finger - Well done Brian 'Gordon' Bennett (again! - doesn't hang around that chap)
Most entries - Alex 'Dravid' Wall with 5
Leaving it to last minute - Stephen 'Button Head' Harcombe with 2 mins to spare! (his only entry but sadly for him contains Alex Noren)
Best of luck!!
Live m7 scoring will be up and running after tee off at https://m7golf.wixsite.com/m7golf.
21 is the M7 record score to beat set at the PGA last year by Bill 'You're 'avin a' Lafferrandre III but of course lets not forget the best record of the lot - John 'Cliff' Talbot Snr’s even more incredible record of 500 pts
Reminder - "You can't win M7 on the first day but you sure as hell can lose it" - Alastair 'Baloney' Loney
