M7 2024 The Open - Ready for the off

lobo2210

Welcome to Royal Troon! It's time for the final M7 of the year (sob!), hasn't it just flown by. This is your last chance to take home some $$ this year

Full picks are in the email I sent and can be seen by going to https://m7golf.wixsite.com/m7golf/leaderboard.

Please check your own entry is correct. Any objections please raise before tee off. N.B. "My picks are sh*t" is not a valid objection - that is your own fault

There are 100 of us going for the big prizes (+ our good friends Control and Wisdom) - everyone is in!

Prizes (TBC)

1st - S$5000

2nd - S$2800

3rd - S$1600

Best of Rest (<5 make cut) - S$600

Lets get this out the way. The following have no chance whatsoever:

  • Alex 'Dravid' Wall as they won the US Open at Pinehurst (no one wins back to back M7s - except Todd 'Ronald' McDonald once )

  • Todd 'Ronald' McDonald winner of last year's Open at Royal Liverpool (no one successfully defends an M7 championship)

What does it take to win M7?

The Open average winning score is 53 points - if you take out Tally's 2006 winner with 105 points, the average drops to 49.6

Who picked who?

80 different players picked which is a decent 50% of the field.

Lots of people picked players not playing. There's no Detry, Riley, Reed, Syme, Hoffman or Knapp. If you've got one of them you are playing M6!

The Brits feature strongly in the popular picks this year...4 of the 6 most popular picks are from the UK

The most popular pick is Fleetwood (60) followed by Lowry (55), Hatton (54), Bobby Mac (48), Rory (43) and Smith (41)

Brooks (30), Niemann (27), Rai (25), Scott (24), Aberg (22) and Oosthuizen (20) all have 20 or more. It could be incredibly close / bunched

39 of you have the most popular 2 all in your team (Fleetwood, Lowry)

25 of you have the most popular 3 all in your team (Fleetwood, Lowry, Hatton)

15 of you have the most popular 4 all in your team (Fleetwood, Lowry, Hatton, Macintyre)

7 of you have the most popular 5 all in your team (Fleetwood, Lowry, Hatton, Macintyre, Rory)

Norman's (Wisdom) team is McIlroy, Fleetwood, Hatton, Lowry, Macintyre, Smith and Niemann.....No one has the same exact same 7 - although Michael 'Beebs' McGarry has 6

We had 21 valid unique picks in all. Douglas 'Silly' Isles (JT and Horschel) and Rob 'Nosey' Parker (Taylor and Stenson) have 2 in their teams

Amateur Dominic Clemons is the highest ranked OWGR player picked - well I don't even think he has a ranking - only one of you has him (Richard 'Porridge' Holloway)

What about the LIV splitters?

LIV picks are certainly down for this tournament - maybe because Bryson is in top category. They account for 26% of all picks in M7 - could be an all time low

12 of the 18 available have at least one pick somewhere in M7

Amazingly 15 of you have swerved LIV completely.

Speed and Uncertainty Fastest finger - Well done Simon 'Toasty' French Most entries - Rene 'Cheech &' Chong and Tom 'Dodecahedron' Browning with 4 Leaving it to last minute - Alastair 'Baloney' Loney with 7 mins to spare

Best of luck!!

Live m7 scoring will be up and running AFTER ROUND 1 at https://m7golf.wixsite.com/m7golf.

21 is the M7 record score to beat - set at the PGA this year by Bill 'You're 'avin a' Lafferrandre III but of course lets not forget the best record of the lot - John 'Cliff' Talbot Snrs even more incredible record of 500 pts

The best Open score is 31 set in 2021 by Matthew 'Beevower' Price

Reminder - "You can't win M7 on the first day but you sure as hell can lose it" - Alastair 'Baloney' Loney
