It's the final M7 of the year and we are locked and loaded!
So far we have had 11 different winners for the 12 prizes (Darren 'Wedge' Heal the only one with 2 prizes). Will we see some new names picking up some cash in 2023!
Full picks are in the email I sent and can be seen by going to https://m7golf.wixsite.com/m7golf/leaderboard.
Please check your own entry is correct. Any objections please raise before tee off. N.B. "My picks are sh*t" is not a valid objection - that is your own fault
There are 98 of us going for the big prizes (+ our good friends Control and Wisdom) - No shows from Tom 'Wobbly' Wheeler and Jeanette 'Jimmy' Hennix
Prizes (TBC)
1st - S$5000
2nd - S$2800
3rd - S$1600
Best of Rest (<5 make cut) - S$600
Lets get this out the way. The following have no chance whatsoever:
Todd 'Ronald' McDonald as they won the US Open championship (no one wins back to back M7s)
Sohil 'Kung Fu' Pandya winner of last year's Open (no one successfully defends an M7 championship)
What does it take to win M7?
THE Open average winning score is 52 points but the last three have been much lower at 33 on average
Who picked who?
73 different players picked which is just 47% of the field - once again fairly small number of picks but as you will see below on the face of it, it looks a little less bunched than normal this season.
However a few of your picks are not tee'ing off this week - Davis, Hadwin, Cole and Varner III - so that means only 69 valid picks (44% of field). One of you has picked Lowry in the 31-40 category (OWGR 30) meaning all in all 6 of you are playing M6.
DJ is the most popular pick (again) with 82 picks, but unlike last time out there isn't another pick that close to him. Next most popular is Rory (52)
Then we have:
Fleetwood (49)
Koepka (43)
Lee MW (38)
Bobby Mac (36)
Reed (34)
Fowler (33)
Bryson (33)
Hatton (26)
Scott (24)
Scheffler (24)
That's 11 players above 20 picks compared with 8 in the US Open, 9 in the PGA and 10 in the Masters (albeit with much smaller field). So a bit more of a spread of popular picks
In terms of the popular picks, overall compared with other M7s this year there are less of you with multiple in your 7
44 of you have the most popular 2 all in your team (DJ, Rory)
21 of you have the most popular 3 all in your team (DJ, Rory, Fleetwood)
11 of you have the most popular 4 allin your team (DJ, Rory, Fleetwood, Koepka)
4 of you have the most popular 5 all in your team (DJ, Rory, Fleetwood, Koepka, MacIntyre)
Norman's (Wisdom) team is Rory, Koepka, Fleetwood, Scott, Lee MW, Reed and DJ..... not too dissimilar to last time out.
No one has the same exact same 7 - but Kieran 'KPop' Davies has 6 of the 7
We had a 23 valid unique picks in all - an amazing 4 of those in 1-10 category (Cantlay, Xander, Fitzpatrick, Spieth).
Dave 'Molton' Browne has 2 uniques (Burns and Hillier) as does Adam 'Pirate' Shapiro (Spieth, Day) and Dave 'Mmmbop' Hanson (Larrazabal, Bez) Louis Oosthuizen is the highest ranked OWGR player picked (366)
What about the LIV (soon to be PGA, maybe) splitters?
There are 16 LIV players due to tee-off on Thursday and again with most of them featuring on the wrong end of the OWGR it made them an appealing proposition for M7'ers
However they are a bit less popular that other M7s this year. They account for 29% of all picks in M7.
11 of the 15 have at least one pick somewhere in M7
4 of you have swerved LIV altogether and don't have a single player in team
Speed and Uncertainty Fastest finger - Well done Chris 'Flamingo' Kiernan
Most entries - Daniel 'Snake' Martin with 6
Leaving it to last minute - Alastair 'Baloney' Loney (standard) with 10 mins to spare
Best of luck!!
Live m7 scoring will be up and running tomorrow morning UK time at https://m7golf.wixsite.com/m7golf.
23 is the M7 record score to beat - set at the US Open a few weeks ago by Todd 'Ronald' McDonald but of course lets not forget the best record of the lot - John 'Cliff' Talbot Snr’s even more incredible record of 500 pts.
The best Open score is 29 set in 2012 by Adrian 'Volcanic' Ashman and equalled in 2013 by Pat 'The Greek' O'Reilly
Reminder - "You can't win M7 on the first day but you sure as hell can lose it" - Alastair 'Baloney' Loney
